What is a chemical anchor and when should you use it?
A chemical anchor is a fastening system consisting of a threaded rod or rebar combined with a two-component adhesive or resin. This chemical anchoring method fills the drilled hole completely, creating an exceptionally strong bond – without mechanical expansion. This makes it ideal for applications with limited space or high tensile and shear loads.
Chemical anchors are commonly used in:
- Concrete structures (new construction and renovation)
- Hollow walls and aerated concrete
- Masonry (solid and perforated)
- Infrastructure projects such as bridges and tunnels
Benefits of chemical anchoring
- No expansion pressure: safer in brittle or aged substrates
- High load capacity: suitable for heavy-duty applications (e.g., machinery, steel structures)
- Flexibility: usable in various base materials
- Weather resistance: resistant to moisture, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations
What types of chemical anchors are available?
At BBTec, we distinguish between two main types:
Glass capsule anchors: designed for fast, pre-measured installation. Ideal for standard applications in concrete. These systems are not only powerful and easy to use but also environmentally friendly: because the volume of the capsule is precisely matched to the drill hole, there is no chemical or plastic waste after installation. The only leftover material is the recyclable cardboard packaging.
Injection anchors: versatile solution applied using a cartridge and nozzle. Perfect for variable or hollow base materials.
