Specialised drill stands for deep precision drilling

Schiphol bridge A9

The Situation

On behalf of the Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch Department of Public Works), the A9 highway is being expanded. This means that, among other things, the Schiphol bridge must be widened on both sides. To make this possible, the new parts must be anchored to the existing structure by means post-installed rebar with an embedment depths of up to 180 cm with BIS-PE Pure-Epoxy GEN3.

The Project

The drilling of the anchor holes is a challenging job as the parabolic prestressed reinforcement in the existing bridge section cannot be touched. For this project, Interboor-Midsland, Terra Carta and B+BTec found each other again, after their successful cooperation in repairing wide slab floors.

Terra Carta first mapped the existing reinforcement in great detail using advanced concrete scanning technologies after which a drilling plan for anchoring the new rebar connections could be created.

The drilling of the anchor holes was the next step, for which B+BTec a special drill stand designed to enable the drilling of deep bores with extreme precision.

The Result

Since then, thousands of anchor holes have been drilled passed the existing prestressed reinforcement and just as many rebar dowels have been installed using the new B+BTec injection mortar BIS-PE Pure-Epoxy GEN3 with ETA vlgs. EAD 332402-00-0601 and TR069 for post-installed rebar.
